Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several notable adjustments:

  • Each team includes only 8 human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.

Community Responses: From Fury to Praise

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and another details all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," states another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback

All that said, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community compromising in the middle, according to forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
