Followers Demand Custody of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of Ariana Grande are demanding that a man who breached a barricade and touched the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or deported from Singapore.
A viral footage depicts the individual from Australia bypassing photographers and rushing toward Grande while the performers made its way down a yellow carpet accompanied by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "let go after being detained", though official papers indicated that he was scheduled to appear on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was charged.
Record of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram feed features videos of him interrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last winter.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," commented an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Fans Express Concern Over the Star's Safety
Many followers accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the end of her 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said a further comment on Instagram.
Some supporters also faulted event staff at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while others requested social media platforms to block Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Event Details
In clips shared widely, Grande appeared startled when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Hundreds of supporters had gathered in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore venue, including several who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The movie, to be released on the 21st of November, is the sequel of a dual adaptation of the acclaimed Broadway and West End show Wicked, which focuses on the surprising bond between two distinct sorceresses.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a light pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful film of last year in the UK, and earned ten Oscar nominations, securing several for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
