Over 50 Minor Asylum Seekers Have Not Been Located Subsequent to Disappearing from Care in the United Kingdom
Over 50 lone child asylum seekers who disappeared shortly after coming the UK and while in the care of the authorities are remain unaccounted for, as per figures obtained.
Many of the missing children came in dinghies or hidden in the cargo areas of lorries and are thought to have been taken by traffickers. This region is commonly the location where they first land.
Government Figures Reveals Alarming Statistics
Disclosed records has documented 345 children going missing from the region, with 56 of those still missing.
Between 2021 and 2023, when temporary accommodations for children were run along with other sites in different regions, 132 children vanished from the accommodations. Among them, 108 were subsequently located but 24 are yet to be found.
Between 2020 and August 2025, 213 children vanished from reception centres for these minors, with 182 located and 32 still missing.
Origin Statistics of Unaccounted Youths
In the two scenarios, youths of Albanian origin were the biggest contingent to vanish, making up half the overall number from the temporary accommodations, 68, and in excess of one-fourth from the care facilities, 65.
The second and third largest ethnic groups to have vanished from each location are Afghans subsequently people from Iran.

Policy Shifts and Continuing Issues
In December 2023, after a extended judicial process relating to solitary migrant children missing from all temporary accommodations, the custom of routinely accommodating children in hotels was ruled unlawful.

The representative explained that skilled child protection staff assessed the children's danger of being mistreated with safeguarding protocols implemented in cooperation with external bodies, such as authorities and appropriate ministries.
