Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat

Arne Slot admitted that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his position after a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” Slot commented.

“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win naturally but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He added, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Conversations with Club Management

When asked to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction

The manager expressed regret over familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He added, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a period like this with results so bad.”

He concluded, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the planet.”

“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
