The Gruesome Animated Film Conclusion That Stays With Fans
Out of every mature animated films I have ever viewed, no other has lingered in my mind as much as the dread-soaked finale of a viscerally violent and overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.
Back in the year 2015, the Spanish writer-director developed a dark, bleak , often savage world with several minor , desolate twinges of hope.
Although Unicorn Wars seems like it stemmed from an impulse to expand animation further, the director clarified that it was more an effort to communicate a universal, cross-cultural theme regarding “the shared root of all wars.”
This theme is expressed by means of a group of vividly colored bears , clearly modeled after a famous series of cuddly characters.
Maturing in a society built around militarism as well as the war machine, many of these animals are obsessed with slaughtering unicorns, due to a holy book that claims them they previously were kings of the forest, before the unicorns drove them out.
A few did not entirely accepted the indoctrination, , prefer to sample drugs and mate in the woods.
In contrast to their gentle equivalents, these vivid animals show sexual organs and clear sex drives.
For a particular notably brutal, cynical bear, the bear named Bluey, the battle with unicorns turns into a road toward dominance — and specifically to dominance above his softer, nicer brother the character Tubby.
This bear is a bully , an apparent sociopath , and as horror dominates his squad and takes his teammates individually, he seizes progressively control for himself, through ever more gory, destructive ways.
Meanwhile, these mythical beings are enduring their own terror, through an expanding, harmful creature in their habitat.
“Initially, it appears as a lighthearted film,” the director stated. “Yet it turns into a more dramatic and sad movie. And in the finale, it’s a terrifying movie.”
Unicorn Wars starts out feeling a bit like one of the more quirky movies from a renowned animator, that discover a wicked pleasure in permitting animated figures swear, engage in violence, or engage sexually.
Subsequently it becomes more akin to a bleaker work from the same director, including ever more visual gore , a palpable relation to the actual suffering of war.
In the finale, it’s an outright extreme drama carnage.
The fear which makes this a perfect Halloween viewing kicks in well before than indicated.
The Unicorn Wars is suited for the devoted lovers of violence, for lovers of intense movies who desire to watch something they haven’t ever seen on-screen before, and can endure a story that offers absolutely no punches.
Watch it in a dark room free from interruptions, and that ending will burrow deep within you and linger.
