The Showrunner Discloses He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that Pluribus would turn into a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit sci-fi show coming to an end—and Season 2 officially in the works—the creative team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Audience Reaction

One could easily to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to avoid both.

“The experience is akin to force fed hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's on purpose. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

A Pressing Query: Does Vince Gilligan Know the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by fan response, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… in a way.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” he states. “yet we stand ready to discard a decent plan for a better idea. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Alternatively, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
